Special Olympics, Inc. is a $60+M international nonprofit whose mission is to protect and perpetuate the fundamental undertakings of Special Olympics as a sports movement for persons with intellectual disabilities.  Primary duties include accounting, reporting analysis and compliance for a $6M+ (and growing) grant portfolio.  Federal donors include the Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Disease Control and United States Agency for International Development. 
Description:

Grant Accounting, Cash-Flow Management & Reporting 

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy for the grant portfolio 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual grant revenue and spending reports including SF269, SF272 and other necessary reporting in support of government and other donor requirements as necessary
  • Train and direct the work of field office accounting staff where applicable 
  • Meet regularly with program staff to resolve financial and budgeting issues concerning their programs 
  • Administer for all grants-related cash management activities, including timely grant draw downs 
  • Review financial reports for accuracy and completeness

Budgeting & Analyses

  • Identify potential areas of cost overruns and possible future funding requirements 
  • Prepare periodic financial and ad-hoc reports of project expenditures vs. budget projections for distribution and review by program, management and accounting staff 
  • Prepare budget forecasts and grant pipeline analyses; develop financial tracking tools and monitor expenditure trends to minimize cost overruns 
  • Review all budget proposals and/or cost proposals before submission to grantor/funding agency 
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual operating budget and other strategic reporting

Compliance

  • Review grant financial reports and supporting documentation to ensure compliance between project budgets and program activities 
  • Review the ongoing administration of grants to assure compliance; work with program staff in reviewing and monitoring existing grants 
  • Work with accounting staff through the A-133 audit
Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor degree with 3+ years of hands-on experience, at least 2 years of grants financial management experience and a working knowledge of Federal award guidelines including OMB A-110, and A-133 
  • Degree or significant experience in accounting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated accounting and analytical skills necessary to review reports, compile data for reports, and maintain accounts in compliance with funding guidelines 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Great Plains accounting systems
  • Experience with MicroEdge GIFTS software preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple priorities
