Ram Shrestha, Special Olympics Nepal |
Ram Shrestha, 25, has been involved in Special Olympics Nepal for 12 years, competing in in football (soccer) and athletics. He was captain of the Special Olympics Nepal football team that won a bronze medal at the 1999 Special Olympics World Summer Games in North Carolina, USA.
An expert in incense and candle making, Shrestha also makes peanut butter and repairs bicycles. He has put his leadership skills to work as an active member of the Athlete Leadership Programs offered by Special Olympics.
Shrestha works as a teacher's aide and his future ambition is to become a coach for Special Olympics Nepal. "The skills, knowledge and experience that I have gained from my participation in Special Olympics activities, mainly the athletic activities and football," he said. "have placed me in a situation where I have learned to value my achievements and discard my weaknesses."
