Hoff set the new record of 4:31.12 while winning the women's final, and Phelps finished in 4:05.25 to set his record in the men's final.
Phelps and Hoff have more in common that just being world record holders. They are both dedicated supporters of Special Olympics, and were part of the “Visa Friendship Lanes Tour” of goodwill, friendship and cultural experience in China in April 2007. They took part in a series of events that celebrated the dreams of people of all abilities and cultures, representing their support of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
