Service, bravery and honor are qualities that police officers the world over have in common. And when it comes to raising funds for Special Olympics Hong Kong, you can add teamwork and endurance to the list. More than 1,200 law enforcement officers from seven disciplinary forces and 200 Special Olympics athletes put on their jogging shoes for the 2005 Law Enforcement Torch Run®. The 3.5-kilometer run began at Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and wound through Shatin Park and Shing Mun Riverside, raising HKD1.1 million (approximately US$141,400). The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law enforcement officers from 35 countries carry the "Flame of Hope" in honor of the Special Olympics athletes in their area and around the world.
